Microbial Genetics (CMMB 549). The course provides an in-depth consideration of advanced topics in molecular genetics of microorganisms, taught at a fourth year level or for beginning graduate students

Medical Microbiology (MDSC 612). The basic principles of medical microbiology and pathogenesis of infectious disease and of clinically important pathogens. Emphasis is on bacteriology and virology but also includes parasitology and mycology. The laboratory provides an introduction to advanced laboratory methods in microbiology including those currently used in clinical, basic, and applied (biotechnology) research.

Bacterial Pathogenesis (CMMB 431). An introduction to microbes that cause infections (in humans, animals and plants.) Topics include: the relationship between pathogen and host, ability of pathogens to colonize, reproduce and cause disease, the role of antibiotics and vaccines in treatment and prevention of infection, antibiotic resistance in bacteria, environmental control of virulence factor production.
